(From Philippine Daily Inquirer)
Byline: Ronald G. Mangubat
BETWEEN the ages of 12 and 14, Stephen Edwin King, now the undisputed master of horror novels, submitted stories to local publishers, hoping to see his byline in newspapers and magazines. But instead of receiving nods of approval, all he got was a series of rejection slips.
First non-fiction book
Today, Stephen King is regarded as one of the most prolific, popular and richest writers. Having written more than 40 bestselling novels, he recently surprised his readers by writing "On Writing A Memoir of the Craft" (published by Pocketbooks, 2001, 274 pp.), his first non-fiction book.
"On Writing" is part memoir and part virtual writing class. King takes readers on an enlightening journey through the joys and pains of the writing craft.
For years, he wasn't making any headway in his writing career.
