JAPANESE firms in the country gave the local business climate a higher satisfaction rating in October, indicating a surprising confidence in the economy despite recent political controversies that were feared to dampen investment mood.
The latest survey conducted by the Japan External Trade Organization (Jetro) showed the diffusion index for the Japanese businessmen's sentiment on the country and the local business environment rising significantly to 8.2 points in October from the previous month's 0.4 points.
Among the 234 Philippine-based Japanese firms covered by the Jetro survey, 29.1 percent said they were expecting business to be better, 50 percent said it would be the same, and only 20.9 percent believed it would deteriorate.
