BAGUIO CITY-A Catholic priest in Tuba, Benguet, has been sentenced to four months imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to charges of sexual misconduct.
And in a strange twist of fate, Municipal Trial Court Judge Benjamin Buena, who handled the case, succumbed to a heart attack weeks after he sentenced Rev. Fr. Nardo Cayat last Oct. 3.
A court employee believed the case to have been "God-given" to Buena because "God allowed him to finish it before he passed away."
Court records obtained by the Inquirer showed that Cayat pleaded guilty to charges of forcible acts of lasciviousness against a woman who belonged to a political family in Benguet.
Cayat had befriended the victim who had promised to sponsor one of the priest's trips abroad.
