CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY-The National Power Corp. said Mindanao has a huge reserve of power that would last beyond 2005.

The state-owned firm sought to assure businessmen who said they were worried that investments in Mindanao would slow down because of fears of a power shortage on the island.

Napocor had made the forecast last year.

But Pio Benavidez, Napocor's senior vice president for generation, told the Inquirer that Mindanao has enough power supply beyond 2005 but it was not a guarantee the island would be spared from power interruptions because of other problems.

Benavidez said groups out to sabotage the country's power system were behind the attacks on Napocor transmission lines.
