DAGUPAN CITY-The normally voluble speaker of the House has admitted losing sleep over the latest imbroglio to hit Congress.
Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr., otherwise known as Sunshine Joe for his congenial style of leadership, said he has hardly had any sleep since Supreme Court Chief Justice Hilario Davide Jr. was impeached by a one-third vote of the House membership on Oct. 23.
Since then, amid calls from different sectors to withdraw the impeachment complaint, Congress toughened its stance and vowed to press the case after the Supreme Court issued a status quo order against the House.
De Venecia and 22 other congressmen then met and said they had decided to push through with the impeachment case and would transmit the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate when Congress resumes sessions on Nov. 10.
