NOT ALL heroes at the Libingan ng mga Bayani are found under concrete, white crosses.
Surviving family and relatives of those buried at the Libingan know these heroes as the caretakers who make sure that the hallowed graves are kept clean and tidy.
Their task is to make sure the tombs of the country's great departed are well-kept, basking under the sun while blanketed by trimmed grass free from fallen leaves.
The memorial garden of former President Diosdado Macapagal, father of President Macapagal-Arroyo, has a new shine to it, thanks to 62-year-old Pedro Loneza.
Loneza was busy sweeping the area and watering the plants when the Inquirer talked to him Thursday.
