THERE is a special place in Manila where the remains of abandoned babies and aborted fetuses are given repose.
The area is in a place within the North Cemetery dubbed the "Haven for the Angels."
Dr. Florencio Baltazar, head of the Manila Health Department who also oversees the city's cemeteries, said only the North Cemetery has such a place in the whole country.
The haven, which is in an enclosed area and has its own entrance, has 286 units that can hold three babies each.
Fortunately, in a sense, only one-third of the total units are occupied.
