THE RULING Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats is wading into the effort to persuade pro-impeachment lawmakers to withdraw their signatures from the impeachment complaint against Chief Justice Hilario Davide Jr.
Lakas spokesperson Heherson Alvarez said party leaders would organize rallies and campaign against Davide's impeachment during the 10-day "lull" before the House transmits the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate.
Alvarez said party leaders would persuade the 17 Lakas signatories to withdraw from the impeachment complaint charging Davide of misuse of the Judiciary Development Fund (JDF).
"We in the party will work to change the vote [of the congressmen]," he said. "And on the fifth day of the lull, you'll see an uproar [against the impeachment] because the party will ventilate the issues."
Alvarez said party leaders would travel to various points in the country to explain why the impeachment should be "aborted." He said the complaint against Davide had no basis.
"The 10-day lull bought us a reprieve so that our congressmen can consult their constituents," he said.
