HYDERABAD, India-Top Filipino netter Johnny Arcilla joined boxers Harry Tanamor and Violito Payla in their bid for gold medals at the close of the 1st Afro-Asian Games here Friday.

Arcilla downed Congo's Sonny Kayombo, 7-5, 4-6, 6-1, Thursday to barge into the men's singles final against Indian Vijay Kannan at the SAAP Tennis Complex.

Refreshed by a 24-hour break, Tanamor and Payla will also have to contend with local rivals in their respective titular bids at the Gatchiboli Indoor Stadium.

Tanamor, bronze medalist in this year's World Boxing Championships in Thailand, tangles with Mohd Ali Qamar in the light fly category.

Two-time Tammer Cup champion Payla, on the other hand, battles Akhil Kumar for the flyweight crown.
