Hurricane Isabel caused up to $1.17bn of damage when it hit the US mainland in September, according to the latest estimate from the property claims services arm of Insurance Services Office (ISO).
The hurricane hit the east coast of the US in the middle of September and caused a varying swathe of damage that stretched from North Carolina through Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey. Isabel finally dissipated near the Canadian border.
