Romantic Misconceptions The economic ties between Japan and the Middle East run deep. Japan relies on the crude oil produced by Persian Gulf countries for the bulk of the petroleum it consumes, and provides extensive official development assistance (ODA) and technical cooperation to Middle Eastern countries.
