: Five persons were killed and another passenger was injured when their car collided with a truck near Muthurayanagar on Bangalore-Mysore highway in the early hours of Sunday.
The accident occurred at one of the 26 curves between the city and Bidadi.
The deceased - Mallikarjuna, Mahesh, Karan Kumar, Vijaykumar and driver Nagaraj, all in 20-25 age group - are from Pattangere, Rajarajeshwarinagar. The lone survivor, Biju Nair, has been hospitalised.
The accident occurred around 2 am when the victims were travelling to Mysore in the car belonging to Swarna Travels and on contract with Doordarshan, the police said. Sangappa, driver of the VRL truck, has been arrested.
Traffic was disrupted for a few hours on the highway before the police cleared the damaged vehicles.
The highway is a treacherous stretch claiming nearly 325 lives and injuring over 1,500 persons since 2002. Over 115 persons have been killed so far this year.
