Unilever cut its sales forecast for the second time in four months on October 20, after the Atkins diet wooed more dieters away from its SlimFast products. Shares fell more than 7 per cent after the surprise trading update, which came nine days before Unilever was due to report third-quarter results. In June Unilever cut its forecast for the 2003 sales growth of key brands, excluding currency movements, from 5-6 per cent to a new target of 4 per cent.
