A DELAY over plans for an Olympic-sized 50-metre swimming pool at Hengrove appears to have been averted.

Labour and Tory councillors outgunned moves by the Liberal Democrats who urged a rethink on the plans.

The political row began last week when two Liberal Democrat councillors 'called in' the cabinet decision to go ahead with the controversial pool at Hengrove Park .

They would prefer to see a leisure pool at the site and a conventional pool with lanes built north of the city and closer to the motorway network - but it was claimed that any delay would harm the scheme's chances of winning funding.
