DaimlerChrysler, the German-US automotive group, is to begin paying trade tax for 2003, for the first time in 11 years, having exhausted losses carried forward. These were depleted when, for reasons relating to corporation tax, hidden reserves were released in 1998 prior to the merger of the former Daimler-Benz with the US group Chrysler.
