Brasilia: The head of IBAMA [Brazilian Institute for Environment and Renewable Resources] today delivered a document to the president of EMBRAPA [Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation], Clayton Campanhola, and to the ministers of Agriculture, Roberto Rodrigues, and the environment, Marina Silva, greenlighting a field trial with a transgenic variety of papaya.

The variety of papaya developed by EMBRAPA's laboratory in Cruz das Almas (state of Bahia) is resistant to the ring sport virus [PRSV] which affects papaya.
