BRADENTON -- With latex gloves pulled up to their elbows, about 30 Ballard Elementary School fifth-graders on Tuesday got a hands-on taste of what it's like to be a research scientist.
Using droppers and tiny vials, they tested water samples from the pond outside their school, measuring its temperature, turbidity, PH balance and oxygen level.
The students are learning about the ecosystems of Ware's Creek and the nearby pond that feeds into it. They've made it a school project to take care of the creek.
