Media's role 'is to give an accurate picture'.

The media has a responsibility to put across a fair and accurate picture, to probe and analyse and not take anything at face value.

These were the words of the BBC's Tim Sebastian as he introduced the first session of the two-day Arab Media Summit that started in Dubai on Tuesday.

The well-known BBC presenter, who hosts the show 'Hard Talk', said that a questioning media is a key function of a modern democracy.

"Nobody should be sent out to fight in a war without a reason. In the media, we do not make decisions over life and death, we only ask why," he said.
