Gordon Tallis, who was expected to lead the Kangaroos to Britain and France next month, has announced his immediate retirement from representative rugby league.

The 30-year-old Brisbane Broncos forward said Tuesday that his body could no longer handle the rigours of both club and representative football.

Tallis, considered the most destructive forward in Australian rugby league, was set to lead Australia on the Kangaroo tour next month, but said he was physically unable to give his best.
