- Japanese managers grew more upbeat about business condidions in the three months to September, a key Bank of Japan survey showed Wednesday, with optimists outnumbering pessimists among large manufacturers for the first time in nearly three years.
- The U.S. dollar traded in the lower half of the 111 yen level in early Tokyo trading Wednesday, down slightly from its levels overnight in New York.
- All Nippon Airways Co. (9202), known as ANA, plans to reduce the salaries of all employees in the spring by about 5%, The Nihon Keizai Shimbun learned Tuesday.
- Mid-sized contractor Morimoto Corp. (1845) said Wednesday it has filed for court-led rehabilitation, leaving behind liabilities totaling Y215.3 billion.
- The reconstruction of Iraq will cost about 55 billion dollars over a four-year period starting in 2004, according to an estimate by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), The Nihon Keizai Shimbun learned Tuesday.
