LONDON, Oct 1 /PRNewswire-AsiaNet/ - The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International, today presented its highest honor - a Lifetime Achievement Award - to Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal. U.S. Ambassador William S. Farish, Ambassador to the Court of Saint James and Honor Society of Nursing President May L. Wykle presented HRH The Princess Royal with the prestigious award for her global humanitarian endeavors and contributions to health care.
"What you (the Honor Society of Nursing) have done is to extend the role of nursing to a higher level," said HRH The Princess Royal, in accepting the award. "What you do is to make sure nurses are able to do what they can do."
HRH The Princess Royal is president or patron of approximately 222 organizations and has worked to create such charities as The Princess Royal- Trust for Carers, Transaid and Riders for Health. She is Commandant-in-Chief of the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry, Commandant-in-Chief of St. John Ambulance and Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal New Zealand Nursing Corps.
"It is a privilege to give tribute to such a hardworking member of the royal family," said president Wykle. "HRH The Princess Royal has helped to ensure that the most impoverished of people receive services."
