TEHRAN, Oct 1 Asia Pulse - Managing director of state-run Iran Railroad Organization (IRO) Mohammad Saeed-Nejad said here Monday that the private sector is to purchase 2,200 cargo train wagons valued close to US$90 million and 100 passenger wagons worth about US$50 million.
Saeed-Nejad added that the railroad organization also welcomes foreign investments in expansion of rail network and purchase of equipment. He said the IRO aims to increase its share in domestic transportation and "to this end it has embarked on negotiations with several foreign companies."
"To give peace of mind to investors, the government will guarantee investments in the sector," he added. He said the expansion of the rail network aims to increase transit transportation. Planned projects to link Iran to Europe and Central Asia tops the organization`s agenda to expand the rail network, Saeed-Nejad underlined.
