OPPOSITION Sen. Gregorio Honasan yesterday lost his bid for the Office of the Ombudsman to investigate the coup d'etat charges filed against him for his alleged involvement in the failed July 27 Oakwood mutiny.
Ombudsman Simeon Marcelo told the Supreme Court that the Department of Justice has the full authority and jurisdiction to conduct the preliminary investigation on the coup charges against the senator.
In his 27-page comment to Honasan's petition for certiorari seeking the transfer of the investigation to the Ombudsman, Marcelo said the alleged acts of Honasan in leading the July 27 Oakwood mutiny cannot be considered part of his duties ...
