GENERAL SANTOS CITY-Police are claiming that they captured the deputy of Abu Sayyaf leader Khadaffy Janjalani on Monday at a checkpoint near Malisbong bridge in Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat.

Chief Insp. Kadil Masahod, Palimbang police chief, told reporters that they set up the checkpoint at the boundary of Barangays Malisbong and Pinol in Maitum, Sarangani, after they received intelligence information that Abu Sulaiman and his aide were planning to sneak out on a skylab, a modified motorcycle used by commuters in areas inaccessible to four-wheel vehicles.

Around 6 a.m., the checkpoint police flagged down a skylab. One of the two passengers ran away and jumped into a passenger van. Pursuing policemen caught up with him at the Maitum public terminal.

Back at the Palimbang station, he introduced himself as Hashim ...
