MALACANANG has spent about P150 million for the overhaul of the presidential airplane, an aging twin-engine Fokker F-28 jet, for P10 million less than the original estimate, a Palace official said yesterday.
The refurbished aircraft will be arriving this month from Singapore where the repairs were undertaken by the Fokker Services Asia (FSA), according to Waldo Flores, the senior deputy executive secretary.
Flores said the Palace opted to have the plane overhauled rather than spend the millions of pesos required to rent a Lear jet for the President's travels around the country.
