(From Philippine Daily Inquirer)
DAVAO CITY-The New People's Army linked an Army captain and two more soldiers in last week's death of militant youth leaders in Maco, Compostela Valley.
But the military said the rebel group should not resort to "trial by publicity" to gain sympathy.
Rigoberto Sanchez, spokesperson of the NPA's Merardo Arce Command operating in Southern Mindanao, said Capt. Denmark Mamaril, Sgt. Roy Telang and an Adan Marcus, all of the military's Intelligence Security Unit were with the group of armed men who snatched Anakbayan members Marjorie Reynoso, Jonathan Benaro, Lito Doydoy, and motorcycle driver Ramon Regase Jr. near the Hijo Plantation in Maco on Sept. 19.
Earlier, human rights group Karapatan identified Willy Jorolan, an alleged military intelligence asset, as one of the armed men who forcibly took the victims.
Sanchez said after abducting the youth leaders and Regase, Mamaril's group brought them to a safe house in Trento, Agusan del Sur.
He said it was in the same safe house that the suspects raped Reynoso, 18, who was also chair of the Sangguniang Kabataan in Barangay Anislagan in Maco.
