By Koh Byung-joon While local corporations are faring quite well and reaping more profits, they are tightening their purse strings on public donations, according to a recent report by the National Statistical Office.
Charitable donations made by local corporations in 2002 were estimated at around 1.3 trillion won ($1.1 billion), dropping 16.5 percent compared with a year earlier. The downward trend followed on the previous year's on-year decrease from 1.64 trillion won in 2001 to 1.59 trillion won in 2001.
