By Sim Sung-tae The Korean government has yet to make a decision on the U.S. request to send additional troops to Iraq, presidential spokesman Yoon Tai-young said yesterday.
Yoon denied a media report that the government is moving to accept the troop request and is examining details on the matter.
The Munhwa Ilbo, an afternoon daily newspaper, said yesterday that Seoul would likely decide to send combat troops to Iraq later this month, quoting an anonymous Cheong Wa Dae official.
If the government accepts the request, it may send a combat force consisting of special and regular infantry units, the newspaper said.
Ra Jong-yil, senior adviser to the president for national security, said that the government is not considering sending marine or special warfare troops.
