Kolkata, Sept. 29. THE River Transportation Coalition under the Indian Ship Builders Association has identified cargoes that can be moved along the National Waterway No. 1 (Allahabad to Haldia on the Ganga-Bhagirathi-Hooghly river system) after reviewing the cargo potential for Kolkata/Haldia.

About 1.7 million tonnes of traffic potential has been identified - 6,00,000 tonnes for the downstream (i.e., from Allahabad/Varanasi/Patna/Pakur to Kolkata/Haldia) and a little more than a million tonnes for the upstream (i.e., from Kolkata/Haldia to Allahabad/Varanasi/Patna/Farakka).
