"Any optometrists wishing to express their frustration on illegal sales of contact lenses, this is your big chance. The FDA is listening," says optometrist Timothy Milburn, of Medina, Ohio.

About half a year ago, Dr. Milburn and other optometrists organized a grass-roots campaign that entreats legal authorities to enforce the existing regulations on illegal dispensing of corrective contact lenses. (See "News Review: Put Teeth into CL Laws, Petition Says," March 2003.)

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has received the contact lens petition and assigned it an official docket number. That means it is now open for public comment.
