LHP Jarrod Washburn hasn't been 100 percent physically since taking a tumble during a fielding drill in spring training and landing hard on his shoulder. Though he says he has adjusted to pitching with discomfort, the injury may be the key factor in what has been an up-and-down season for him. After finishing the first half with an 8-9 record and 4.22 ERA, Washburn began the second half 0-2 with a 7.48 ERA. A strong start July 28 against the A's, in which he went seven innings and allowed four hits and no earned runs, was followed by a clunker of 5 1/3 innings, nine hits and three earned rims against the Blue Jays....
