Cedric Houston says the voices he hears in his head are motivating him in the dog days of summer leading to the 2003 season. Not one of them is the voice of Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer reminding Houston that another 8-5 record is not acceptable. Nor is one the voice of a teammate giving him props for being a preseason All-SEC choice at tailback.
It's the voices of a father, a grandmother and an aunt he saw laid to rest in a three-week span in June. If, as expected, Houston enjoys an autumn of great gain, it will come only after a summer of great loss.
