Tsunamis in the northern Atlantic Ocean are more frequent then previously thought, according to the Benfield Hazard Research Centre's latest report.
One of the largest recent events was the Lisbon earthquake of 1755, which destroyed a large part of the Portuguese capital and then unleashed three tsunamis that were an estimated 12 metres high, which further wrecked the city.
The report claims that events of this magnitude were thought to be quite rare, but that their frequency has in fact been underestimated.
