Power and endurance are no longer an issue for a growing number of cordless drills. The three most capable models we tested should drill enough holes and drive enough screws to build a 12x12-foot deck before both of their batteries need a recharge. They also outpowered several corded drills we bought for comparison. And like other cordless tools, their batteries can be recharged hundreds of times and should last some five to seven years.

There's more to choosing a cordless drill than brawn, however. The most powerful, 24-volt models have weighed as much as 8 pounds--a concern for those with limited strength and when working above shoulder level. That and prices ...
