London blue chips opened little changed on Thursday after weak Wall Street trading in the previous session, but good results from Next and Wm Morrison helped limit any potential losses.

The FTSE 100 remained at Wednesday's closing level of 4,293. The FTSE 250 mid cap index edged 0.1 per cent higher to 5,694.4.

"It's run out of steam at the moment," Freddie Tulloch of IG said. "It's likely to be quiet. The economic numbers recently have pretty positive, but the market is waiting for US corporate data to prove the point."
