ANGADANAN, Isabela-Unfazed by opposition from the church and militant groups, a new multinational agricultural company wants to plant genetically modified organism-laced crops, particularly bacillus thuringiensis-injected corn (Bt-corn), in three villages in Isabela.

Rogelio Palasigui, chair of the National Committee on Biosafety of the Philippines, said Syngenta Philippines Inc. would plant Bt-corn crops starting next month in 12 trial sites in the country, three of which will be in Isabela.

Bt-corn and non-Bt-corn crops will be planted in each 1,000-square-meter trial sites at Barangay District 1 in Angadanan town; …
