At one time, the big highway cruiser was the quintessential American car. Large, roomy, soft riding, and quiet, the vehicles were designed primarily for comfort. Of course, that was before oil embargoes; fuel-economy concerns; clean-air regulations; and the influence of SUVs, minivans, and better-handling, more-efficiently-packaged imports.
