DEL Boy, Britain's favourite TV comedy creation, is to get a new lease of life, thanks to a spin off series to be shown next year, it was revealed yesterday.

The character, who favoured dodgy medallions and sheepskin jackets and made "cushty" part of the English language, is to be recreated as a schoolboy.

John Sullivan, the man behind BBC's Only Fools And Horses, has revealed he is busy writing a new set of scripts set in the swinging Sixties.

Once Upon A Time In Peckham will be tell the early years of the South London wideboy.

All the main broadcasters are set to fight it out for the rights to the spin-off show, with the BBC leading the way.

But it is still not clear whether the Ashton Gate area of Bristol will once again stand in for the streets of Peckham when filming gets underway.
