SEOUL, Sept 1 Asia Pulse - Foreign direct investment in South Korea has been falling since 2000 in terms of cases and amount, a government report said Monday.
In a report to Eom Ho-sung, an opposition legislator, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy said direct foreign investment in South Korea dropped from US$15.22 billion in 2000 to $11.29 billion in 2001, $9.1 billion in 2002 and $2.66 billion in the first half of this year.
In terms of amount, FDI also showed a declining pace. The FDI in 1998 was valued at $8.85 billion and $15.54 billion, respectively, in 1998 and 1999. However, the amount began to slide in 2000, reaching $15.22 billion.
The amount further declined to $11.29 billion in 2001 and .1 billion in 2002. In the year through June, the amount was tallied at $2.66 billion, according to the commerce ministry.
