OVERVIEW:
Australia's A$17 billion (US$10.56 billion) tourism industry hit a crisis point in the first half of 2003, due to a combination of factors: the Iraq war; the international terrorist threat; the global economic downturn and the SARS crisis.
In March, 392,500 visitors arrived in Australia, a decrease of 12 per cent relative to the same month of the previous year.
