JAKARTA, Sept 1 Asia Pulse - The Indonesian government should cooperate with other developing countries in rejecting World Trade Organization (WTO) agreements, the Institute for Global Justice (IKG) said.
Bonnie Setiawan, executive director of IKG, said here Thursday the government could convey its firm stance to reject WTO during the organization's ministerial conference, scheduled to be held in Cancun, Mexico, on September 9 to 13.
"The government should open a public consultation and increase people's participation in evaluating WTO's agenda," Bonnie said.
He referred to the agreement on liberalization of the agricultural sector as initiated by the chief of WTO's committee for agriculture, Stuart Harbinson.
Harbinson, he said, had an ambition to encourage liberalization in the agricultural sector in terms of market expansion, lowering import duties and elimination of domestic support.
