JAKARTA, Sept 1 Asia Pulse - State-run electricity company PT PLN has been told to reconsider its plan to build hydropower plants (PLTA) in Java because they could face complicated problems during the dry season.
"In the future, we will ask PLN to reconsider its plan to build an PLTA and it would be better for the company to build other kinds of power plants in Java," Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro said at Cirata dam, Purwakarta district, West Java, Thursday.
He said gas-fuelled power plants would be more suitable for the region because of abundant supply of natural resources.
In addition, it could also develop heat-generated power plant although only on a small scale.
Currently, PLTA in Java has been facing similar problems almost every year, namely lack of water supply during the dry season to generate the power plan.
