SEOUL, Sept 1 Asia Pulse - The Ministry of Science and Technology said it is encouraging world-class institutes and private companies to establish research and development centers in South Korea.
The ministry recently signed a contract to set up a research and development center with France's Institute Pasteur, a non-profit private foundation which contributes to the prevention and treatment of disease.
In addition, Russia's State optical Institute (SOI) agreed to open a research facility in South Korea.
"We have reached agreement on the basic details of opening the (optical) center with the SOI in St.Petersburg," said ministry official Choi Seok-shik.
"Currently, working-level negotiations are underway," the official added. The SOI is known for its world-class technologies in optical mechanics and electronics.
