* Artificial sweeteners: A few years ago, I was needling Steve Sabol about NFL Films' habit of taking liberties--running plays out of order, inserting stock shots of Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders into official reels of Super Bowl 10, etc. With the slightest hint of a boy with his hand in the cookie jar, Sabol explained that such techniques are sometimes necessary as documentarians "streamline a story line." I nodded, reasoning Ken Burns or Bud Greenspan probably also have had to, um, side-tackle their equivalents of a Bengals highlight film.... But sweetening video of live-to-tape history? Shamey-shamey.
