* I hope I'm wrong, but I'm afraid Panthers coach John Fox, when picking a starting quarterback from the likes of Rodney Peete, Jake Delhomme and Chris Weinke, is going to feel like he's trying to pick a worn-out shirt from a yard sale to wear to Sunday dinner. They are all going to look bad, and everyone's going to laugh.

* While I enjoyed parts of your article on Ryan Newman (TSN, August 11), I feel you were a bit hard on this young man. I agree that Newman is among the best qualifiers in the series--if not the best. But you make it sound as if he is locked into a pattern of poor starts of seasons. He has a very short past and a very bright future. A lot of drivers would kill to have the success he has had so early in his career.
