For pianists who were born during the 20th century, the name Schnabel carries almost mythical significance. The professional careers of Artur Schnabel (1882-1951), his wife Therese Behr Schnabel (1876-1959) and their son Karl Ulrich Schnabel (1909-2001) spanned the entire 20th century.
The title of the DVD, Con Brio, comes from a discussion during a master class. In conversation with a student, Karl Ulrich Schnabel probes "What is the difference between the expressive markings con fuoco and con brio?" The format of this DVD presents excerpts of numerous master classes held in New York, Israel and Italy. In spite of frequent shifts in location, the DVD flows easily through the lives of great musicians. The content includes extensive use of stock film footage and historical photographs. This DVD also presents insightful comments from some of Uli Schnabel's most famous students ...
