(From Philippine Daily Inquirer)
Byline: Victor C. Agustin
THE FIRST Gentleman's younger brother, Ignacio "Ignacito" Arroyo Jr., will be presented to the Senate today as Jose Pidal.
According to the grapevine, lawyer/s for Ignacito will appear in the Senate this morning to formally ask that the subpoena for Jose Pidal be served through them. Once the subpoena is served to the lawyer/s, Ignacito's counsel/s will then submit to the Senate a copy of Ignacito's statement where the younger Arroyo would own up the Union Bank account of Pidal.
"Pidal" had already told GMA Channel 7 that the Union Bank account had been closed in August 2001, contrary to the claim of opposition Sen. Panfilo Lacson that it contained millions of pesos as of July 2003. In addition, Bank of the Philippine Islands already disclosed that it had absolutely no Jose Pidal account, again contrary to the Lacson claim.
According to the grapevine, GMA reporter Arnold Clavio knew the identity of Pidal but agreed not to disclose his real name until after Pidal's lawyer/s shall have presented themselves to the Senate today.
Ignacito Arroyo, a Negros haciendero who is said to be a better businessman than his more famous brother, is the Lakas chair for Western Visayas. Ignacito earlier reported having donated P5 million to the 1998 campaign of his sister-in-law, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
