(From Philippine Daily Inquirer)
SANTIAGO CITY-The Supreme Court fined a municipal trial court judge with P10,000 for the "unreasonable delay" in executing his decision on a 1995 debt collection case.
The SC's first division said Judge Ruben Plata of the MTC Branch 1 here was "liable for unreasonable delay in the issuance of the writ of execution of the judgment, which (arose from) gross inefficiency and neglect of duty."
The complaint against Plata was filed by Socorro Hune, an agent of a private lending agency, who accused the judge of sitting on the motion for execution that her lawyer filed in 1998, or three years after Plata decided on the case.
The SC also warned Plata that "the commission of the same or similar act in the future will be dealt with more severely."
Plata declined the Inquirer's request for an interview.
The complaint against Plata reached the SC administrator on Aug. 4, 1999.
