(From Philippine Daily Inquirer)
TWO days before the Senate opens its inquiry into charges of corruption against First Gentleman Jose Miguel "Mike" Arroyo, his camp reportedly has yet to decide on who it will present as Jose Pidal, the owner of secret bank accounts identified by opposition Sen. Panfilo Lacson as no other than Arroyo.
In a statement, Lacson yesterday claimed that Malacanang "operators" led by Ronaldo Puno, a former Cabinet member of deposed President Joseph Estrada, were "still at a loss on whether to present Ignacio Arroyo or a certain Kenneth Yap as 'Jose Pidal."'
Mike Arroyo's counsel, lawyer Jess Santos, denied the senator's claim as "malicious information."
Santos said in a statement that Lacson himself was "guilty of having manufactured a vicious smear campaign against the First Gentleman, without any basis in fact and with no evidence that can stand the scrutiny of the courts."
Ignacio Arroyo is the younger brother of the First Gentleman who claimed ownership of two pieces of property in San Francisco, California, that were earlier reported to be owned by the First Couple.
Yap, president of Primetown Realty Development Corp., had an "unsuccessful real estate business in Bulacan and Novaliches," according to Lacson.
