CEBU CITY-A grenade exploded inside the radar building of the Air Transportation Office (ATO) inside the Mactan Cebu International Airport Compound on Saturday, killing an ATO employee.

The explosion was not related to any terrorism attempt at the airport, the country's main international gateway in the south, assured Airport manager Angelo Verdan.

"Our airport is safe. There is no terrorism involved here," Verdan said.

ATO technician Ceasar Simeon, 54, was alone inside one of the rooms of the radar building when the grenade exploded at about 2:15 p.m., police said.

Simeon died at 4:45 p.m. at the Mactan Community Hospital. He suffered several injuries in the right side of his body.
